Chieflika was the sire of Miss Centava Chief.  She was his last foal--- foaled in June, 1975 (Chieflika died in March 1975 at the age of 20.)  Chieflika was a blood bay by Fire Fly Chief and out of the race mare Star Beggar NChieflika earned his ROM in barrel racing, pole bending & calf roping.  he won numerous awards and money in the RCA (later PRCA)  & GRA (which became the WPRA), SDRA & NRCA circuits.  He was also was used in and won in team roping, steer wrestling & cattle cutting.   He was also the sire of Hat Creek Chief, who we used as a stallion for 2 years.
Congratulations to Trisha Smeenk who is currently the SDHSRA queen & the SD 4-H Ambassador (queen).  She rides a black mare that is a daughter of Miss Centava Chief & a granddaughter of Chieflika.   Trisha is a great neice of Jack & Betty Smeenk, the owners of Chieflika.

Hat Creek Chief

We used Hat Creek Chief as a stallion for  a couple of years when we were 1st starting raising horses.  We were only able to keep 1 filly to use as a broodmare.  My sister kept two mares that she used as saddle horses.  They have been used by her sons in all 4-H events & have been winners in 4-H & youth rodeo events.
The mare we kept was Miss Ski Cat Chief, 1982 brown mare.  She produced rodeo winning horses. ( See the information below.)
According to Joan Johnson  in the 2003 Breeders Edition of Todays Horse "He (Chieflika) died in 1975 and was considered by area horsemen to be one of the greatest horses of his time"  This excerpt is taken from her article "A Family Tradition" about Jack & Betty Smeenk who owned Chieflika for most of his life. They purchased him from Z.N. (Zoder) & Margaret Golliher after their son Jerry had already been riding him & beating AAA horses in match races.   Jack & Betty campained Chieflika in both AQHA shows & rodeos .  Duriing that time he achieved his ROM in barrels, poles & calf roping  along with winning numerous awards in amateur & professional rodeo.
